Momme is the unit used to measure silk density and quality, similar to thread count for cotton. A 19 momme silk pillowcase sits in the ideal range for nightly use: dense enough to be durable through years of regular washing and sleeping, while remaining soft, breathable and smooth against the skin and hair. Lower momme silk feels flimsy and wears out quickly while much higher momme adds weight and cost without meaningful benefit for sleep use.
What is peace silk and why does White Lotus use it?
Peace silk, also called Ahimsa silk, is produced without harming the silkworm. Conventional silk production boils the cocoon with the silkworm inside, while peace silk allows the moth to emerge naturally and live out its normal lifespan before the cocoon is harvested. White Lotus uses exclusively peace silk across its entire silk range, which is a key reason the brand holds PETA certification. The quality of the finished silk is equal to conventional silk.
