How to Use the Genuine Sisal Dry Body Brush
The Genuine Sisal Dry Body Brush has natural sisal bristles and a wooden body. It was designed by qualified acupuncturists and follows the meridians of Chinese medicine. Most dry brushes tell you to brush toward the heart. The twelve channels of the body do not all run that way, which is why the White Lotus routine is a little different from the one you may have seen elsewhere.
This guide walks you through the routine shown on the insert that comes in the box: the brush directions for each part of the body, how much pressure to use, how often to brush, and how to care for your brush so it lasts. Watch the video first, then keep the diagram handy for your first few sessions.

Why the direction matters
In Chinese medicine, six channels travel up the body and six travel down. The White Lotus brush routine follows those channels rather than sending every stroke toward the heart. On the arms, the inner surface is brushed from the chest to the palm and the outer surface from the hand to the shoulder. On the legs, the inner surface is brushed upward and the outer surface downward. The back and shoulders are brushed downward, either side of the spine, and the abdomen in clockwise circles.
Follow the channels: the diagram

How to dry brush with the sisal body brush
Use on dry skin before you shower. Light pressure only, three to seven strokes over each area, following the arrows on the diagram. Work the right side of the body first, then the left.
- Inner arms: from the chest to the palm.
- Outer arms: from the hand to the shoulder.
- Inner legs: upward.
- Outer legs: downward.
- Abdomen: clockwise circles.
- Back and shoulders: downward, either side of the spine.
- Finish at the chest, then shower.
After your shower, apply White Lotus Body Oil to damp skin. You will find the body oil in our body collection.
How often to dry brush
Use two to three times a week at first, building to daily if your skin is comfortable. Stop if the skin becomes tender. The bristles are natural sisal, so the brush should always feel brisk rather than scratchy; if it feels too firm, lighten your pressure rather than pressing through it.
Caring for your brush
- Keep the brush dry between uses.
- Clean it occasionally with White Lotus Natural Tool Cleaner. You will find the cleaner in our tool care collection.
- Store it somewhere it can air, rather than in a damp bathroom cupboard.
Safety and care
- Do not use on broken, irritated or sunburnt skin, over varicose veins, or on the face.
- If you have a circulatory or lymphatic condition, varicose veins, or are receiving medical treatment, speak to your doctor before dry brushing and follow their guidance.
- Stop if the skin becomes tender.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- This is a cosmetic accessory and not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are pregnant, have a health condition or are receiving treatment, speak to your doctor before use.
